Baby Beach Gear – 6 Tips For Baby Beach Fun

With the proper baby beach gear and a bit of planning, having a baby doesn’t have to mean giving up your coveted trips to the beach. By following these six tips, you and your baby will be enjoying the sun and surf in no time.

1. Make sure you take a proper stroller. With it, you can easily bring everything you need for the afternoon. Without it, you will be taxing both your spirit and your back to haul everything plus the baby across the sand and back again. A jogging stroller, with its convenient basket, works really well for carrying your baby’s beach gear..

2. Pack one beach bag with your belongings such as sunscreen, towel, your book, and reading glasses. Pack a separate bag for the baby’s belongings with diapers, wipes, SPF 50 sunscreen, sunhat, change of clothes, and a few sand toys. Keeping the baby’s beach gear separate from your own makes it so much easier to locate things when you need them.

3. Pack a soft-sided cooler with snacks, water and the baby’s formula. A hungry baby is not a happy baby and if you try to “get by” while at the beach, you will regret it.

4. Skip the beach towel and instead, pack a beach blanket or mat that is large enough to keep your baby comfortable on the sand.

5. Bring along a beach chair for yourself. It will be easy to transport if you slide it over the handle bar of the stroller.

6. Consider a large beach umbrella with an SPF of 50. But even with the added sun protection of an umbrella, you should still slather yourself and the baby with sunscreen.

You should have no trouble packing your jogging stroller with all of these items plus the baby. If your portable beach umbrella comes with a carry case, just sling it over your shoulder. And when you reach the beach, don’t forget it’s easier to pull the stroller backwards through the sand than to try and push it.

Remember, babies get slippery when wet, so if you do venture into the surf with your babe, make sure to hold on tight and don’t become distracted. Drowning is the most frequent cause of death for children under the age of five, so you can never be too prepared when it comes to water accidents. If you have not yet taken the Red Cross lifesaving course, it would be a good idea to take it before you head to the beach for the first time with you baby.

But with the proper planning and precautions, both you and your baby are sure to enjoy your trip to the beach!

Digital Photography Basics – What is Aliasing?

If there’s one thing that digital photography has no shortage of, it’s confusing vocabulary words. Aliasing, which is a common word in the world of digital everything (video games, CGI, photography), is one of those words that everyone has heard, but may not quite understand. And when it comes to digital photography, anti-aliasing is a common feature found on many digital cameras but is rarely explained. Don’t worry though because here we’ll explain it and it isn’t nearly as complicated as it sounds.

The Basics About Pixels

Most digital images are made up of square units known as pixels. If you take any of your digital photographs and zoom in a few times, you will notice that the closer you get, the more blocky the image appears. This blocky appearance is the result of the individual pixels becoming more pronounced as the digital image is increased in size.

Your camera’s resolution is directly related to the number of individual pixels it can capture in a given frame as is often referred to as the mega pixel value. The higher the resolution, the more pixels you get. The more pixels you have, the smoother the lines in your image. For example, think of a staircase where it looks blocky up close but as you move further away it looks more like a diagonal line. This is how pixels create shapes in an image.

The Basics About Aliasing

Aliasing refers to the edges of round or diagonal lines in your images, which are all made up of square pixels. When you see this pixels drawn rigidly and in only one color, the lines will look more noticeable and jagged. This may not be immediately visible if the pixel is surrounded by others of a similar color, but as the colors increase in contrast, the pixel will increase in visibility.

Aliasing is not usually obvious unless an image has been taken at a very low resolution. Most modern digital cameras shoot at resolutions that make aliasing nearly unnoticeable to the naked eye, however it is easy to spot once these images have been blown up from their original size. All digital photographs have some level of aliasing, no matter how good the camera may be.

Anti-Aliasing Explained

Anti-aliasing allows the colors at the edge of pixels to bleed into one another, creating a sort of blurred effect. It may sound counterintuitive, but blurring the edges of each individual pixel will result in sharper images with smoother lines and more natural color differentiation.

To test this out, take one of your digital images and reduce it in size. You will no doubt notice that as the size decreases, the lines of objects in the photograph will seem smoother. When the pixels in the picture get smaller, they become less noticeable. This is a similar effect to anti-aliasing – slightly blurring each pixel makes it stand out less and blend more smoothly into the image.

Most digital cameras come fully equipped with a built in anti-aliasing feature. Not only will anti-aliasing make your pictures look more natural, but it will also help to offset any loss of image quality caused by a lower resolution camera. Although it is always good idea to shoot at the highest resolution possible, anti-aliasing will help to make sure your images look great.

Although you may not have realized how important anti-aliasing was before, once you understand the impact on your pictures you won’t want to shoot without it. Anti-aliasing really helps to bridge the gap between expensive super high resolution cameras and the price of the average digital camera by eliminating the rough, jagged lines of aliasing. If your camera has an anti-aliasing function, make sure to always have it on and your pictures will certainly thank you.

Advantages of PR Over Advertising

People tend to confuse PR and advertising, but the truth is that they are quite distinct and while good advertising can bring your business plenty of publicity, theres nothing like great PR to give you that boost in the public eye.

First of all, you need to realize that PR is public relations. Its coverage that isn’t paid for in cash, like advertising. It takes a lot more effort to create good PR, but it is well worth it, since this method is far more effective for publicizing your business

PR Advantages

The advantages of using PR are many, so lets take a look at a few of them.

PR is usually free. It may cost you in printing out your press release and stamps to send them, but its still a lot cheaper than advertising which can run into the thousands of dollars!

No matter how much you pay for an ad, you’ll never get a big front page placement. Thats reserved for news and offering great PR is a good way to get that position for absolutely nothing.

People know that ads are paid for and they take them with a grain of salt. While a good ad can still convert, people are automatically suspicious of an advertisement. However, with media coverage brought about by PR, people wont have their guard up. They’ll read your story and be interested in it without being suspicious because it is assumed to be un-biased.

Once you’ve been featured on the front page, its quite possible for other areas of the newspaper to pick up on your story and redo it in their own way. This can provide free repeat coverage, within the same publication which is a real boost to publicity. People need to see information a lot of times before they make the decision to buy, so the more publicity, the better.

You’d be surprised at how far a good news story can go! Unless you have something to do with a piece of major breaking news, chances are you wont be the number one story on the news tonight, but that doesn’t mean you cant enjoy repeat coverage. If one television show or newspaper reports on you, it’s quite likely that your story will also show up on other channels!

You can offer far more details about your company or product within a public relations story. Most newspapers will want to print more than a few lines, which would be standard for an advertisement, so you’ll want to include information that will catch the public eye.

Having connections with the media is never a bad thing and can stand you in good stead later on when you want to give your business a boost. Make sure that your press releases are exactly what editors are looking for, which will give you a leg up next time you have a press release. They’ll know that you provide quality work and this will reflect in their treatment of you.

There are many reasons to choose PR over advertising, if you have to make a choice. The truth is that combining the two publicity methods is an excellent method for gaining the optimum number of sales. However, when it really comes down to it, good public relations trumps advertising the majority of the time. Building connections and relationships with the media is invaluable and should definitely be utilized in every business that wants to be successful.

How to Protect Your Wooden Outdoor Sofas

Spending some time on your patio or on your backyard can be quite relaxing after a long days work. Since a lot of people love to spend some time to relax outside their homes for awhile, many are getting outdoor sofa sets to place on their patio or along their yard.

There are a lot of choices when looking for a sofa outdoor set, among them are wicker sofas. These sofas are made from wood, interwoven to create a sturdy sofa that you can place on your patio or on your yard. Rattan wicker sofas are not only friendly to your budget, but they also have great durability that cal allow them to last long.

However, if you really want to get the most of your wicker furniture, like the wicker loveseat that you often enjoy sharing with your partner you should follow these tips:

1. Coating your sofa with water proof-polish – when choosing a wicker sofa for outdoor use, make sure that
you choose one that has been coated with water proof-polish. Since they are intended for outdoor use, they will constantly be in contact with moisture, especially during rainy days. Water can easily degrade any wooden furniture. So you need to have them protected with water proof-polish.

However, if you’re chosen furniture does not have a water proof coating, you can easily purchase one in your local hardware and paint it over the furniture yourself. This should be done from time to time to give maximum moisture protection. This can help prevent moisture from degrading through your wooden furniture.

2. Drying your wooden sofa – aside from having a water proof polish placed on your wooden furniture, you should also keep in mind that water can easily seep in through wood if there is entrance. In order to prevent damage due to moisture, you should properly dry your furniture.

You should wipe the moisture from your wooden furniture during the morning or after it got wet. This prevents water from seeping into your wooden furniture and destroying it.

3. Termites and pests – aside from moisture, termites and other pests are one of the greatest threats to any wooden furniture. Termites eat through wood and can easily destroy your wicker furniture if you do nothing to prevent or treat the invasion.

In order to protect your furniture from termites, make sure that you purchase wooden furniture that is made from wood that has been treated with chemicals that repels termites. Another option is to purchase a termite spray product and spray it over your furniture yourself. This will prevent future termite attacks on your furniture.

Getting a rattan wicker sofa for outdoor use can be a great investment. It is quite relaxing and cool to sit in, compared to upholstered sofas. Other than that, they also come in varying styles and designs that can allow you to choose one that you think is fitting to place in your patio or for outdoor use. Having one placed on your patio, outdoor garden, front or backyard can truly add style and a place for you to relax in your home.

How To Feed Your Golden Retriever

Starting your new Golden Retriever puppy out on the right foot by feeding him properly will help him grow to be a happy, healthy adult. Puppies receive their nutrients from the mother until they’re about 7 weeks old. But at about three weeks, it’s time to start giving them puppy food that has been soaked and mixed to a thin paste that resembles the food they get from mom. The breeder should have started this process before you pick up your new Golden Retriever puppy.

Before you bring your new puppy home, be sure to find out exactly what food he’s been given and the times he’s been fed. Because puppy stomachs are very sensitive, it’s important to continue the same regimen. When you begin to change to a more mature diet, gradually transition from 25% new mix with 75% of the old diet to the opposite (75% new and 25% old) over a ten-day period. This will give your puppy time to adjust to the new diet without undue discomfort or digestive problems.

When your Golden Retriever puppy is at least 8 weeks old, it is acceptable to separate him from his mother and bring him home to meet his new family. At first, your new puppy may not show much interest in eating. Changes this big can be very stressful. Don’t force him to eat. Once he figures out he doesn’t have to fit his brothers and sisters to get his fair share, he’ll become more curious and hungry. So don’t worry if he only sniffs and nibbles at first.

Puppies need twice the nutrients that adult Golden Retrievers need to stay healthy. Don’t be tempted to use too many treats with your Golden Retriever puppy, as they do not contain enough nutrients for his healthy growth. For the fist few weeks, stick to the type of food and the same feeding schedule as he was getting from the breeder. It’s hard for a new Golden Retriever puppy to adjust to changes, and maintaining a stable schedule with familiar food will be a nice balance to the shock of new surroundings and people. During the transition to the new food, watch closely for vomiting, loose stool or constipation. If these occur, slow down the transition until your Golden Retriever puppy adjusts and can eat without becoming upset or ill.

Professionals recommend that puppies should eat three times a day until they are about six months old. But it’s a good idea to take the puppy to your vet as soon as you can. Get him checked out, and discuss diet and nutrition with your vet. Your vet will be able to give you tips on appropriate weights so that you can avoid over- or under-feeding your new Golden Retriever puppy.

The feeding schedule will, of course, be largely determined by your own schedule. But set regular times, and stick to them. Your new Golden Retriever puppy need stability, and sticking to a set schedule will help you with house-training, as his bathroom habits will be regular and predictable. Be sure to provide ample water during and after his meals. Set aside some quiet time for your puppy after meals to avoid stomach problems. Expect your puppy to need to go to the bathroom within an hour or so. Ask the kids not to play with the puppy for the first hour to hour-and-a-half after he eats.

When your Golden Retriever puppy has learned to sleep through the night, make it a habit to take him outside for a potty break each morning. Then feed him, allowing for about an hour of quiet time afterward. Stick to your feeding schedule as much as you possibly can. You should schedule the last feeling at last an hour or so before you plan to go to bed so that you can give him a potty break before everyone settles in for a good night’s rest. Until your Golden Retriever puppy is house-broken, provide puppy pads or newspapers near (not in) his sleeping area in case he can’t wake you up for a trip outside.

By the time your Golden Retriever is 8 to 10 weeks old, he should be on a diet of dry dog food. You can add a little warm water to make it more appetizing, but don’t use canned or moist dog food. These are mostly water and not nearly as nutritious as the dry foods. The warm water will encourage your Golden Retriever puppy to eat all his food, though you may need to sit with him and add more warm water a little at a time. From three to six months, your Golden Retriever puppy will be teething. He may appear to be sick, but unless it lasts over two days, don’t worry. It’s growing pains.

Never feed your puppy table scraps. They are likely to upset his stomach, and they are not the food he needs at this stage of his growth. As your puppy grows, his stomach will grow, and he’ll eat more. At about six months, you should begin to feed him twice a day, in the morning and at night, but continue to use a diet of puppy food. Being larger dogs, you may want to keep your Golden Retriever on puppy food well into his second year. But you should reduce feeding to once per day, always offering plenty of water during and after his meal. When you do switch to adult dog foods, be sure to select aquality brand with adequate nutrition for your Golden Retriever.

If you follow these guidelines and show your new Golden Retriever plenty of love and affection, you’ll give him a great start to a long, happy, healthy lifetime with your family. He’ll be a valuable and beloved member of your family for years.

How to Raise a Rabbit – 3 Critical Tips to Taking Care of Your Rabbit Correctly

Have you ever felt at a loss because you do not know how to raise a rabbit? This guide will show you the basics on taking care of them. If you are a new rabbit owner, make sure you remember these tips. They are lovely pets and will stay happy if you take care of them properly.

You have to make sure that your rabbit house is cleaned thoroughly and regularly. A dirty rabbit cage will result in a dirty and smelly bunny, and you yourself will feel discouraged to approach and cuddle with your rabbit because of the dirt. Don’t let the dirt pile up because it will be more difficult to clean. The number one thing you should remember on how to raise a rabbit is to clean the house every day. A rabbit will usually shed waste in one spot so put a newspaper there. Change the food daily, and clean up the excess food and soiled bedding every day.

Do not let your rabbit get dehydrated! Aside from providing enough food for your pet rabbit, it is important to keep the rabbit well-hydrated by placing a water bottle near the rabbit cage. It is recommended that you put it outside of the cage but make it face the rabbit cage. This will avoid accidental knocking of the water bottle by the rabbit, and thus, you have fewer things to clean. This is common sense for every pet owner, and not a specific answer on how to raise a rabbit. Like the rabbit house, clean the water bottle everyday and replace it with fresh water daily.

The next point will teach you how to raise a rabbit by feeding rabbits with the right kinds of food. Rabbits can eat hay, but this is not just any kind of hay! For younger rabbits, alfalfa hay is good but for the older ones, it’s better to give them timothy hay. Of course, rabbits love fruits and vegetables so feed them with lots of it! Carrots are bunnies’ favorite veggies, but you can also give them leafy vegetables such as broccoli and spinach. As for fruits, a selection of apples, strawberries, melons, pears and/or peaches would delight your furry friend. Make sure they are fresh. Aside from food, you can place a chewing toy inside the rabbit cage. Rabbits like to chew and this will keep them from getting bored.

How To Treat Your Dog For Dehydration

Dehydration is caused by the excessive loss of fluids. The condition must be treated by the replacement of fluids. It can result from a dog being kept in hot conditions for too long or from illness. Vomiting and diarrhea or a high fever will all cause dehydration.

When a dog becomes dehydrated the electrolytes in the dog’s bodily fluids get out of balance. The electrolytes are mineral salts such as sodium, potassium and chloride. This can result in damage to organs such as the kidneys and liver. Ultimately this can prove fatal. Dogs do not have sweat glands like humans so they cool themselves by panting. This can lead to dehydrations just like excessive sweating can lead to dehydration in humans.

A dog must always have access to clean, fresh water. Keep a bowl of water accessible to the dog at all times in the house, yard and dog pen. If you use a dog pen in the house make sure there is water available there too. Change the water in all the dog’s bowls at least every day. Never let the dog become overheated. Do not let it stay out in the yard in hot weather unless it has shade. But it is better to bring it indoors especially if you live in a warm climate. Dogs with a heavy coat are very prone to overheating. It may be best to have them clipped for summer.

Dogs should not be left in cars. Even with the window open slightly a car can quickly overheat. This can happen even in winter because the car acts like a greenhouse. So if you need to leave the dog, when you go into a store say, tether it somewhere shady. Encourage localstores to have a dog tethering spot at which water is available.

When you take your dog for a walk and especially if you take it jogging with you make sure it has access to water. Many dogs will happily lap water poured from your own water bottle. You can pour some into your hands if the dog can’t drink from a jet of water. It’s a good idea to keep some water and a bowl in the car.

Dried food is best for a dog’s dental health but always make sure it has plenty of water too. If your dog is drinking from the toilet bowl this is not a good idea because there can be unpleasant chemical cleaners used in the bathroom. Give the door more water in its own bowl.

If your dog becomes seriously dehydrated you will notice that is nose is dry, its eyes look sunken and its skin lacks elasticity. A good test is to press the gums and if the color comes back quickly after you release the pressure then the dog is hydrated. But if the color comes back only slowly then the dog may be dehydrated.

A seriously dehydrated dog should only be allowed to drink water in small amounts slowly. Too much water all at once and it will vomit which will only add to the problem. The same electrolyte solutions that are used for children can be used for dogs and puppies. This can be useful in cases where the cause of dehydration is illness. If there is no obvious cause of the dehydration such as heat and exertion or a known illness for which the dog is already undergoing treatment than consult your veterinarian.

Tennis Fundamentals – The Basics You Need to Know Before Playing

Some things cannot be learned fully through theories. Some things must be practiced to attain perfection. Any act that requires motor action has to be performed to learn the same. There is a concept called muscle memory, where the muscles remember many actions that the brain may not and prompts one to perform accordingly. This is what is often referred to as “second nature” as well. Games like tennis also must be played in order to be good at it. But it is also true at the same time that certain basic fundamentals of the game must also be learned beforehand so that when you are in the court, you do not waste time in asking silly fundamentals.

Watch, read, play and learn. Once you are know how to hit a ball and receive one you should concentrate on watching good tennis and reading more about it. As sports these days become more and more sophisticated and researched upon latest techniques are always formulated to find out how to play efficiently. The more exposed you are to such theories and techniques better are your chances in the court. Always put your theoretical knowledge in to practice. Grab every opportunity that you get to play. Try a new shot and note down the problems that you face in executing the same. Watch a friend or a family member who has been playing for long and learn from them.

Tennis provides relaxation, is a great first date, can be an ice breaker in any society and is good for one’s health and fitness. Exciting and competitive only a true sportsman can survive this game and emerge as a winner. To be successful in the court, following are some basic fundamentals to remember.

Racquet: the one you pick when you start your game of tennis will decide how your game progresses from that point onwards. All professional and famous names in racquet manufacturing business are good. The one that you choose should be based on the grip, the weight, the strings and the feel of the racquet in your hand. But do not choose something cheap just to save some money. If you are considering playing serious tennis, then choose something good from the beginning. The formative days are very important.

Tennis balls: very important. Do not use dead balls. When you are starting off the bounce plays a very important role in forming your play.

Concentrate: You cannot succeed in this game if your concentration is not on what is happening on the other side of the net. You cannot think about or look at anything else. Your mind holds 50% of the probability of success that you may have in the court.

Always keep your eye on the ball. Your eyes should never leave the ball. You have to anticipate where it is coming and where you should place yourself in order to receive it on time and return it.

Strokes: you have to learn at least two strokes correctly; the forehand and the backhand.
